Vinyl Portraits

Portraits of the LP generation and their favorite records

A project by johanpabonfotografie.nl

The Vinyl Portraits project presents lifetime stories told through photography by showing portraits of the baby boomers generation proudly holding their favorite LP.
Former youngsters of the sixties, seventies and eighties also tell their story in a short written statement.
Vinyl Portraits is an ongoing project. So far I created more than 100 portraits with vinyl record covers from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Poland.
In 2022 I traveled to Eastern Germany to portray people who grew up in the former German Democratic Republic. Their stories are particularly interesting because Western music and records were not allowed in the GDR, resulting in an underground movement and the smuggling of records.
